Sir Bob Geldof joins Queen Mary 2 for intimate Q&A with guests

HE'S known for his dislike of Mondays, but Sir Bob Geldof certainly likes luxury cruises after the iconic rocker made a guest appearance aboard Queen Mary 2.

The Boomtown Rats frontman joined Queen Mary 2 on the South African leg of its voyage from Fremantle in Australia to Cape Town in South Africa, as he treated guests to an exclusive Q&A session.

Speaking in the ship’s Royal Court Theatre on Wednesday, Sir Bob regaled guests with stories from his illustrious music career as well as his fascinating connection with Cunard.

The Band Aid founder’s father previously worked as a chef on board Cunard ships, with Sir Bob treasuring an original menu card as a memento.

He said: “It was a pleasure to join guests on board Queen Mary 2 and share some interesting tales from my time in music and politics.

"I’ve a personal connection with Cunard, so it was wonderful to rekindle that family tie and experience the delights that make Cunard so unique.”

Sir Bob embarked on the ocean liner on Monday in Durban before disembarking at Cape Town on Friday taking time to have his picture taken with the ship’s captain before he left.

Queen Mary 2 is the world’s only ocean liner having been officially named by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004, after the first RMS Queen Mary of 1936.

The transatlantic ship is in regular service between Southampton and New York City in the United States in between it’s annual world cruise.
