Sir Terry Wogan’s Private Funeral Was Held On Tuesday For Close Family And Friends

Veteran broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan was laid to rest in a private service earlier this week.

It was held on Tuesday out of the media spotlight at the request of his family.

Velvet-voiced Terry died after a short battle with cancer on Sunday January 31 aged 77.

The BBC said in a statement on Friday: “Sir Terry Wogan’s funeral will take place next week. It will be a private service, for the family.”

The Children In Need host – whose career spanned six decades – is survived by his wife, Lady Helen, and their three children.

Sir Terry found out he was dying just three weeks before his death.

Father D’Arcy, who had a spot on Wake Up To Wogan on BBC Radio 2, told two days after the Irishman’s death how doctors advised him to drop out of last November’s Children in Need and focus on getting better.

Terry wanted to work into his 80s

He said: “I don’t think even he thought he was unwell, other than he had quite a seriously bad back, and wouldn’t have been able to stand for the entire show.

“I think he contacted the doctor just to see and the doctor advised him against it, now obviously his own medical details are his own privacy.”

Sir Terry continued to work until a few months ago and had said he wanted to keep going well into his 80s.

His last appearance on the airwaves was on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday November 8.

He was due to present Children In Need the same month, but pulled out at the last minute due to his health issues.
