Sir Tom Jones has cancelled two more tour dates as he remains in hospital with a “bacterial infection”.

The 78-year-old pulled out of two performances earlier this week and has now confirmed via a statement on his official Twitter page on Friday that the weekend’s gigs at Emsland Arena in Germany and Belvoir Castle on Leicester are also cancelled.

As well as stating that the cancelled performances will be refunded, the post also provided an update on the singer’s health.

The statement read: “Sir Tom has a bacterial infection for which he is being treated in hospital.

“The condition is being well managed and under doctors’ orders, appropriate recovery time and rest is advised.”

It continued: “Sir Tom is in good spirits and wants to extend both his heartfelt appreciation and his sincere apologies to all who planned to attend the shows, as well as those involved in the events.

"He is determined to be back performing very soon.”

Friday’s statement comes after Wednesday’s concert at Stansted Park and Thursday’s show at Chester Racecourse were both cancelled.

Ill health previously forced Jones to cancel his US tour last September, later revealing he had undergone a hip replacement.

He later opened up about the operation on ITV’s Lorraine show revealing that getting on and off stage became very difficult and that he knew he had to go under the knife.
