“Sister Wives”' Kody Brown Says It's 'Fun' Getting to Watch Ex Christine 'Fall in Love' with David on New Season (Exclusive)
"Christine and I were better friends than we were lovers, and I'm very glad she's had this experience," the father of 18 tells PEOPLE ahead of season 19
Kody Brown is happy that Christine Brown has found love again.
The Sister Wives star tells PEOPLE that the upcoming season of the TLC series, which premieres Sept. 15, documents the relationship that has blossomed between his ex and her new husband, David Woolley.
"Christine falls in love," he says of what's to come in season 19. "And I got to tell you, it's been a real relief, because I literally watch the show now and hope it's more about Christine and David than about the rest of us, because they're falling in love, and it's cute."
Christine — who split from Kody, with whom she shares six kids, in 2021 after 25 years together — married Woolley, 60, in October 2023, and Kody, 55, describes her new husband as "a little shy" as he calls watching their love story play out as a "fun experience."
"It's just cute. It's fun. It's fun watching them fall in love," Kody says.
Speaking to the nature of his own relationship with Christine, 52, Kody admits, "Christine and I were better friends than we were lovers, and I'm very glad she's had this experience. And so me watching it, voyeuristically is.... It's going to be fun. You're going to really enjoy watching Christine fall in love and get silly and dumb the way lovers become."
He notes, though, that there's "plenty of drama" on display in the upcoming season, too. "It's not all going to be fluff."
Christine went public with her relationship with David in February 2023 and the pair got engaged in April of that year, before tying the knot just six months later.
She told PEOPLE after the wedding that Woolley is a "phenomenal person to the core" as she raved about their relationship.
"He's just outstanding. I just feel like I won a gold mine, major. I won the lottery with him."
Compared to her previous relationship with Kody, she shared things are "simple" with Woolley.
"It's really simple. It's a simple, simple life. And I didn't know I could have a simple life with somebody," she said. "I come with a lot of complications, and he loves me — and that's the best thing of all."
