'Sit Up!': Slouching Rees-Mogg Upbraided From Opposition Benches During Brexit Debate

Arch Brexiteer and Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg was upbraided for slouching in parliament by Green MP Caroline Lucas on September 3.

“The leader of the House, who with his body language this evening has been so contemptuous of this House,” said Lucas. “He’s spread across three seats laying out as if it something very boring for him to listen to.”

As she spoke, others on the opposition benches chimed in, “Sit up! Sit up, man!”

Twitter users and other MPs voiced their disapproval online, with some creating memes of the reclining Rees-Mogg.

MPs were debating ahead of the first Commons vote of Boris Johnson’s leadership. The government lost the vote 328 to 301, meaning a bill requesting a delay of Brexit could now be brought before the Commons. Credit: Parliament TV via Storyful
