Six in 10 Brexit voters 'think gay sex is unnatural', poll finds

Gay sex in considered “unnatural” by 60 per cent of Britons who voted for Brexit, a poll has found.

Research from YouGov for Pink News, found that a shocking six in 10 Leave voters believe gay sex is unnatural - compared to 42 per cent of Britons with the opinion in general.

It was also found that 68 per cent of Brexit voters believe children should not be taught about gay relationships in primary school.

The news website, which concentrates on issues surrounding LGBT rights, called the results “depressing”.

Younger people and Remain voters were found to be more progressive in their views, with 25 per cent of Remainers believing gay sex to be unnatural.

PinkNews chief executive Benjamin Cohen said: “It is depressing that 50 years on from the Sexual Offences Act that so many people still think that gay sex is unnatural and that a third oppose gay couples having children.

“It is gratifying though to know that for younger people, gay relationships are considered perfectly natural and they strongly support gay parents and teaching young people about gay relationships.”

He added: “It has long been suggested that Brexit supporters would be likely to be anti-LGBT rights but now we know that there is a potential correlation with voting for Brexit and opposing gay rights.”

The poll, which is a survey of 1,609 adults, also asked people which political party they voted for in June’s General Election.

It found that 61 per cent of Tory voters who expressed an opinion said that gay sex is not natural, while 73 per cent of Labour voters and 78 per cent of Liberal Democrat voters believe gay sex is natural.

Earlier this month, more than 26,000 people took to the streets for London’s Pride parade, the capital’s celebration of LGBT culture.
