RSPCA rescue centres are currently 'full to bursting' with more animals coming into shelters than can be rehomed.

In Lancashire there are around 50 dogs living in RSPCA care ranging from pups who are just finding their way in the world to older animals looking for a comfy couch to retire on.

Here is just a small selection of the beautiful dogs looking for their new loving homes in Lancashire.

Sheeva

This lovely girl is a five-year-old Shiba Inu X German Shepherd. Sheeva loves the company of her favorite people, and often spends time in the sheter's social spaces.

She loves playing with her toys, especially footballs and she also enjoys playing tug with her handlers. Sheeva generally walks nicely on lead, however, if she gets excited or distracted she can become quite strong - her future family will need to be aware of this.

She loves going on adventures and enjoys her walks! Sheeva has aced some of her basic skills, however, she does still have some things to learn.

She loves training and picks things up quickly. A family that would enjoy training a dog would be perfect for Sheeva. She can become excited and bouncy when she sees another dog, but since being at the centre we have been working on calm introductions and focus work, this will need continuing in her future home.

She would suit a home with children aged 13 plus but no cats.

Daisy

Daisy was born at the centre after her mum was brought in due to welfare concerns. She has come on leaps and bounds and we now understand much better how Daisy thinks and feels about the world around her.

She is quite independent and will happily play and spend time alone but she can be very loveable and affectionate and will seek out interactions from the kennel staff.

We have learnt that Daisy can be sensitive to touch and isn’t keen on being overly fussed so we have set out clear boundaries with her which in turn has made her relationships with staff much stronger.

Daisy adores other dogs but can sometimes be very forward with her interactions as she is so excited to meet everyone and her large size doesn’t help! We do feel though that she could potentially live with another tolerant dog following careful introductions at the animal centre.

She is a typical Lurcher who needs to burn of all of her energy and then will quite happily relax in her bed until she is ready to go out again. She is looking for an active adult only home with someone who has had experience with large, energetic dogs and who also has time and patience to continue with her training.

Virgil

Virgil came into the RSPCA in May 2024 through no fault of his own - unfortunately his owners couldn't provide Virgil what he needed. This hasn't stopped Virgil making himself at home and the staff falling in love with his cheeky little personality.

Virgil has progressed massively sine being at Preston Branch as he did struggle with some manners and had a habit of jumping up to greet. Virgil does really well listening to his handler and their commands especially for food. Virgil loves his food so this makes training very easy.

Virgil is your typical Staffy who loves a good fluffy toy to rip into shreds - so don't go out buying expensive toys because Virgil will make sure they won't last! Virgil hasn't shown any of destructiveness in the centre apart from with his toys so as long as he's given plenty of enrichment and things to keep him occupied he is happy.

Virgil is a friendly boy when it comes to people, he loves meeting a greeting everyone but we do have to remind him when we go for offsite walks that not everyone wants to be his friend unfortunately and to keep all four paws on the ground.

Suzie

Suzie arrived with us when her previous owner didn't give her the care she required, she was very sad.

Suzie, who is nine, has been lucky enough to spend the majority of her stay with us in a loving foster home and here is what her foster mum has to say about her-

'Suzie is the perfect companion. She loves nothing more than cuddles, strokes, and a bit of fuss. She’s very clever at finding her way to the treat tin, so be sure to keep an eye on that! Suzie also loves to sniff and gets excited before walks, though she doesn’t like to go too far, preferring the comfort of home. Let her wander on the lead and explore whatever smells catch her interest.

When left to her own devices, Suzie enjoys sitting by the window, watching the world go by. She loves sleeping on my bed and can be left alone for a couple of hours as long as she can roam around the house.

She always toilets outside and will let you know in the morning when she’s ready, before heading back to bed for a stroke and a lie-in if time allows. After that, she eats and enjoys a walk. Suzie’s favourite things are her duck, carrot, and banana toys, along with belly rubs and plenty of attention."

Dolly

Dolly is a sweet energetic three-year-old French bulldog, who arrived at the centre back in September. Dolly loves everyone she meets and wants all the attention.

She loves a cuddle but also loves playing in the paddocks. Dolly’s favourite thing to do is play fetch with a tennis ball come rain or shine.

She knows a few basic commands and walks well on a lead, but continuing basic training in a home would be important to Dolly. She loves enrichment and doing activities to keep her active mind busy.

Dolly has been unbothered by other dogs since she’s been in our care so could possibly live with another dog upon a successful meeting at the centre.

We would like potential adopters to be around most of the time as Dolly really thrives being around people and loves companionship. Dolly would love for someone who can give her all the cuddles and possibly a tennis ball or two.

Dashy

Delightful Dashy arrived at the centre with his brother Patch. He’s a sweet boy who loves to curl up on a duvet and thrives being around people.

When he first arrived at the centre he was a bit reserved but as time has gone on he has come out of his shell and showing more of his personality around the kennel staff.

He’s a lovely walker who likes to have a good sniff and take in the world. Dashy is very attentive and knows a few commands but carrying this on in a home will help him be the best dog that he can be.

He loves playing in the paddocks with a ball and stretching his long Lurcher legs. Dashy can get a little overwhelmed while out on walks if something unexpected appears, leading him to be a bit vocal towards other dogs and wildlife so due to this Dashy would need to be the only animal in the home so that he can have all the attention to himself.
