Six Injured In Electrical Explosion At Dam

Six workers have been injured in an electrical explosion at a dam in central Washington state.

One of the ten generating units at Priest Rapids Dam on the Columbia River suffered an electrical malfunction on Thursday, triggering the blast.

All six people were airlifted from the plant, near Mattawa, and are being treated for burn injuries, CBS News reported.

Two men, aged in their 40s, are in a critical condition and another worker, 58, is in a satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The condition of the other three men is unknown.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office said the explosion has not affected the stability of the dam and no one down river is at risk.

Grant Public Utility District spokesman Thomas Stredwick said the blast has been attributed to a malfunction in electrical equipment.

Multiple emergency services responded to the incident. None of the other generators was damaged.
