Six North East restaurants voted among best in the UK by diners in 2024 awards
Six North East restaurants have been voted among the best in the UK in the prestigious OpenTable 2024 Awards.
The online restaurant booking service compiles a list of the Top 100 Restaurants across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each year based on diner reviews. This year, four Newcastle eateries made the cut alongside two well-loved venues in Northumberland, perfect for anyone in need of inspiration on where to eat out in the region over the upcoming festive season.
Among the top 100 were three restaurants in Newcastle city centre: 21 in Trinity Gardens, an à la carte restaurant where the cooking is "big on flavour and short on fuss", as well as St Vincent on Broad Chare, inspired by the neighbourhood bars of France and Italy, and The French Quarter on Westgate Road which specialises in traditional and authentic French cuisine.

Peace and Loaf in Jesmond also made the list, having recently been shortlisted for the Best Newcastle Restaurant title at the British Restaurant Awards earlier this year.
Over in Northumberland, Bouchon Bistrot in Hexham, the self-proclaimed "best French restaurant outside of London", was also included in the OpenTable top 100, with diners loving the restaurant's country-style French food.
And rounding off the North East establishments on the list is No. 59 Restaurant at The Townhouse in Morpeth, boasting views over Telford Bridge and a menu packed full of "Northumbrian heart and soul".
For those who would prefer to cosy up at home with their food throughout the cold winter months, it's not just restaurants in the region that that are scooping up awards. Earlier this month, Wok India in Heaton scooped the prestigious title of Best Takeaway in the North East at the English Curry Awards 2024 after establishing itself as a firm favourite with locals in its first year of business.
The restaurant promises to "transport you to the bustling streets of India" with its combination of Chinese and Indian cuisine that create "the perfect blend" of traditional authentic flavours with the convenience and fun of fast food. Speaking about the win, Director Elahi Amin expressed gratitude to the team and the local community, saying: "This award is a testament to our team's hard work and passion for introducing a unique Indo-Chinese experience to Newcastle.
"The warm support we’ve received from the Heaton community has been incredible, and we're thrilled to see this exciting fusion cuisine becoming a favourite here, just as it is in award to our loyal customers and our amazing staff who bring these bold flavours to life every day."
