Sixth bubble tea café to open in Canterbury
Fans of bubble tea in one Kent city centre are set to be even more spoilt for choice as another such café is due to open soon. Bubble CiTea will be the latest brand to join Canterbury’s boba offering, with a new store under construction in Whitefriars.
The purveyor of all things sweet teas is taking over part of the large unit that previously held Beaverbrooks jewellers, which shut its doors for good in 2019 after 15 years in the city. Last year, fellow jewellery chain Lovisa moved into a section of this unit next to Greggs, offering a range of accessories, piercings and more.
It is not yet known exactly when Bubble CiTea will open its doors, but signage displayed in the window of the new store simply states it will be "opening soon". Bubble tea has fast grown to be one of the trendiest drinks on the market, having first originated in Taiwan in the 1980s.

Traditionally, the drink consists of tea blended with milk and paired with chewy tapioca balls. There are now many different variations on the classic beverage that have grown incredibly popular, including varieties made with fruit teas and other ingredients like aloe vera, grass jelly and red bean.
Bubble CiTea boasts on its website: “We are a locally owned and renowned brand who adapts unique flavours to meet local needs, whilst keeping the traditional core value of Taiwanese bubble tea culture. We proudly serve fresh bubble tea at all our retail locations, where we aim to keep the core value of high-quality drinks, outstanding customer service, cleanliness and hygiene. Every season we adapt our special recipes to meet your needs.”
The chain will join Bubbleology, Ding Tea, Cha Lab and Mooboo in the city centre, which all also sell bubble tea. Meanwhile, T4, another bubble tea shop, is set to take over the old home of Paperchase today (April 13).
