Skater boys and girls descend on downtown Vancouver for Go Skate Day
Hundreds of skaters hit the streets of Vancouver Friday for the annual Go Skate Day.
Award winning CBC photojournalist Ben Nelms captured some of the fun at the popular Plaza Skateboard Park in the Dowtown Eastside.
Go Skate Day was created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies.
It was first celebrated in 2004 as a way to encourage people to try the sport and to bring the skateboarding community together.
Go Skate Day is now a global event marked in a dozen countries.
Skateboarding is set to make its second appearance in the Olympic Games this summer in Paris.
