Skaters Glide Over Frozen Canal as Cold Persists in DC Area

Skaters were making the most of ice along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in Potomac, Maryland, on Sunday morning, January 23, as bitterly cold temperatures persisted in the Washington, DC area.

The National Weather Service said temperatures overnight into Sunday were a “touch warmer” than the previous night, but were “still about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.”

Snow showers were expected in areas further west, in Maryland’s Garrett County and Kentucky’s Grant County, where the NWS said between 2 and 4 inches of show would fall through the evening and into Sunday night. Credit: @RiverGirl707 via Storyful
