Skid marks and sand on road after crash shut A53

One of Stoke-on-Trent's busiest roads was shut for almost two hours this morning following a collision. The smash closed a section of the A53 through Cobridge.

The road was closed between Cobridge traffic lights and the junction of Leek New Road and Milburn Road. The crash was first reported at around 5am today and the road had reopened by 7am.

Sand and skid marks are this morning still evident on the carriageway. Cones are also in place and the pedestrian lights linking Yorkshire Fisheries and Cobridge Community Health Centre are out of action.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix stated earlier this morning: "There has been an accident between Cobridge traffic lights and the junction with Milburn Road. The traffic lights have been knocked over by the pharmacy about halfway along this stretch."

StokeonTrentLive has approached Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service for statements following the smash. Any witnesses can call the police on 101.
