Sky News' Adam Boulton has publicly apologised after wrongly referring to transgender US Army private Chelsea Manning (born Bradley Manning) as Olympic cyclist and star of The Jump Bradley Wiggins.

Chelsea Manning had her prison sentence commuted (reduced) after originally being sentenced to 35 years in prison back in 2010 for her part in leaking sensitive documents to Wikileaks.

Taking to Twitter, the presenter of All Out Politics and Sunday Times political columnist said: "Yes apologies to all concerned. Sentence commuted on Chelsea Manning formerly Bradley Manning nothing to do with cycling."

Manning is due to be released on May 17, instead of the previous date of 2045 thanks to US President Barack Obama.

Fans were quick to mock the Sky News presenter after the clip was shared on Twitter.

However, even though the move reduces Chelsea's sentence significantly, this is not the official pardon that her family and campaigners really wanted.

Obama made the move as one of his final acts as President, along with another commutation of sentences for 209 individuals as well as pardons for 64 others.
