Sky Ocean Rescue: How you can be an ocean hero

Three months after the launch of the Sky Ocean Rescue campaign we're asking you to do your bit to protect our oceans.

More than eight million tonnes of plastic enters the oceans every year.

The problem is so serious that by 2050, the amount of plastic could weigh more than all the fish.

It's something that we are all responsible for - 40% of Europe's plastic is only used once and then thrown away.

Any plastic that is not properly recycled could end up in the oceans.

Sky Ocean Rescue is doing something about it, and so can you.

We're asking you to be an #Oceanhero and get rid of single-use plastic from your life.

These are the items that are used just once, sometimes for a matter of seconds, and then thrown away without a thought - everything from plastic bottles and coffee cups, to food packaging, straws and stirrers.

You could try choosing food that doesn't come with unnecessary plastic packaging, and swapping disposable plastic bottles and coffee cups for reusable ones.

To provide some inspiration, Sky's Isabel Webster will be undertaking a two-week plastic challenge.

Along with her family, she will be trying to live without any disposable plastic.

Follow Isabel's challenge and tell us how you're getting on through Facebook and Twitter , using #OceanHero.
