David's son is The Muppets director James Bobin who most recently directed Alice Through the Looking Glass, as well as being the co-creator of Flight of the Conchords and a writer on Da Ali G Show.
He began his career in the 1960s as a newspaper journalist, before appearing on ITV and hosting news programme Coast to Coast.
David left terrestrial television in 1993 to join Sky Sports where he initially hosted their coverage of Spanish football and appeared regularly as a presenter on Sky Sports News.
