Slavisa Jokanovic admitted his “sloppy” Fulham side didn’t deserve more than a point after throwing away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with QPR at Craven Cottage.

Goals from Tom Cairney and Lucas Piazon had been justified reward for 45 exceptional minutes by Jokanovic’s promotion chasers but a Massimo Luongo volley with the final kick of the first-half gave the visitors hope.

Fulham were unable to hold a tidal wave of QPR pressure, Pawel Wszolek pouncing on a mistake from Denis Odoi to draw them level in the 81st minute.

Though the result extended Fulham’s undefeated run to a club record 16 games there was little cause for celebration after a result that leaves them five points off second-placed Cardiff, who have a game in hand.

“We didn’t find our best performance. We were sloppy,” Jokanovic said.

“We had the situation more or less under control. Then after the mistake was the second goal and they deserved that, because in the second half they had chances.

“We made many mistakes. Many sloppy passes. We weren’t strong enough. The result was fair.

“After this kind of performance we cannot be satisfied. But it is part of football. We must now be strong and be ready for the next steps.”

Fulham, so composed on the ball in the first half, struggled to complete even the simplest of passes in the second period, when QPR pressed with greater vigour in advanced areas.

Ian Holloway had made clear at half-time that the passivity they showed for much of the first period would not do and left Craven Cottage believing his side could have followed up their 3-1 midweek win over Aston Villa with the scalp of another promotion contender.

“I’m delighted with our character but we need to be more clinical and not show teams too much respect,” Holloway said.

“I needed to have a rant at half-time to tell them to get closer to people. I was fuming.”

Holloway added: “We looked a very good team in the end. To be honest, how we haven’t won it I don’t know!

“We got what we deserved in the end which was at least a point. I’m delighted for the boys because that was a really good, spirited fightback.”
