Atalanta midfielder Ederson has become a topic of interest among Liverpool supporters after claims he was going to become Arne Slot's first signing.

These rumours have since been quashed with the Reds not prioritising a move for the 24-year-old Brazilian, who excelled for the Italian side in their Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen last month.

But Ederson isn't the only midfielder Liverpool may decide to pursue. And here are five alternatives the Reds could sign...

Adam Wharton

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stellar six months since his £19million move to Crystal Palace from Blackburn in January. He excelled during the second half of the season and was named in the England squad for Euro 2024 as a reward for his impressive performances.

The teenager is already being linked with a blockbuster move to Manchester City. Liverpool know they would face have a tough task signing Wharton this summer.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

Having shone in the Championship during the 2023/24 season, Dewsbury-Hall could be set for a move away from Leicester City. The Shepshed-born midfielder scored 12 goals and grabbed 14 assists in 44 second-tier matches for the Foxes as they secured an instant return to the Premier League.

He was also shortlisted for the Championship Player of the Season, with Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville beating him to that award. The 25-year-old, who is valued at around £30m, has been linked with Liverpool in the past although the Reds have always distanced themselves from such reports.

Teun Koopmeiners

A club team-mate of Ederson, Koopmeiners has been a standout performer for Atalanta over the past couple of years. He scored 15 goals and added seven assists in 51 appearances during the season as the Serie A side won the Europa League and finished fourth in the league.

The 26-year-old was named in the Europa League team of the season and is expected to generate transfer interest this summer. Liverpool are among many clubs who have been linked with signing Koopmeiners in recent months the fee for the player around £60m. Report, though, suggest he's closing on a switch to Juventus.

Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle midfielder Guimaraes has been excellent for the Magpies since his move from Lyon in January 2022. The Brazilian played in all but one Premier League match this season and has already totalled 86 top-flight appearances during his time in England.

One sticking point over a move for Guimaraes could be his hefty price tag, which is reported to be around £80m. And while Liverpool are known admirers, Newcastle would be reluctant to sell to one of their main rivals. Manchester City and Arsenal are among the others linked, with Premier League financial rules mean the Magpies may possibly have to cash in on at least one star player this summer to bolster their overall squad strengthening.

Eduardo Camavinga

A left-field pick but Camavinga could be someone who would fit into the Liverpool mould under Slot. The Frenchman has been in and out of the Real Madrid side during the 2023/24 season, although he did start - and impress - in the 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final last weekend.

The 21-year-old would bring energy, versatility and dynamism to the Reds midfield. Whether Real would want to sell, though, is another matter entirely.
