Although it was largely slated by critics, David Ayer's orc and fairy-filled cop movie Bright had some major viewing figures on Netflix.

But those hoping to see Will Smith return for a second outing of the fantasy law enforcement film may be slightly disappointed to hear it's no closer to happening.

That's according to Lucy Fry, who played Tikka the elf in the first movie. Speaking to ComicBook.com, the actress revealed a sequel was slated to go into production earlier this year, but was delayed as a result of Smith's busy schedule.

"We were going to do it this year, and then it didn't happen because of Will's schedule," she said. "And I really hope they do another one because I had so much fun making that movie. So, I just hope we get to do it again."

Asked if that meant production on the sequel will soon be rescheduled, Fry admitted she knows as much of the rest of us, saying: "No, I don't know. I'm sorry! I wish I did know."

At least fans can rest safe in the knowledge that a second film has actually been ordered by Netflix – and it even has a Disney screenwriter on board.

The sequel will be written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, who previously worked on Beauty and the Beast and The Huntsman: Winter's War.

The first Bright movie is available on Netflix now.
