Smoke Blankets National Forest as Oregon's Cedar Creek Fire Burns Over 3,800 Acres

The Cedar Creek fire, which burned 3,861 acres (about six square miles) by Thursday, August 11, was at zero percent containment in the Willamette National Forest near Oakridge, Oregon, according to official reports.

Officials said the fire began on August 1, when lightning strikes started 20 to 30 fires in the forest. The Cedar Creek fire burned on “incredibly steep, inaccessible terrain,” making efforts to contain the blaze more difficult.
