Smoke Rises Over Johannesburg as Blaze Burns at Rail Depot

A fire in a rail depot in a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa, sent thick smoke into the air on December 20.

Photos and videos posted to social media indicated that the blaze, near the Braamfontein station, began in a train carriage.

A Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa representative was quoted by EWN as saying, “We don’t know how many coaches at this stage, but I can confirm we have a train on fire and it was not a train that was carrying commuters.”
