Smoke Rises From Schroeder Fire in South Dakota

The National Weather Service warned of critical fire conditions in South Dakota and Wyoming on April 1, after the Schroeder Fire forced the evacuation of more than 400 homes in the Rapid City area the previous day, local media reported.

This clip, posted on Twitter by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, shows smoke from the fire rising through trees on Wednesday.

The fire was at 47 percent containment as of Wednesday.

Police said on Thursday they were looking to open most evacuated areas apart from Nameless Cave and Cleghorn Canyon, and travel would again be allowed on West Highway 44. Credit: Pennington County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
