Smoke Shrouds Highway as Caldor Fire Spreads in Northern California

The fast-moving Caldor Fire had burned over 117,000 acres and remained at nine percent containment on Tuesday, August 24, officials said, as several areas remained under evacuation orders.

The fire, which has been burning near Sacramento since August 14, had destroyed 455 homes and threatened another 17,000 structures by August 24.
