Snapchat’s New Memories Feature Lets You Save Pics To Upload Later

Snapchat has unveiled a new section called Memories, which automatically stores photos, videos and ‘Stories’ for users to send later on.

Until now, users could only upload Snaps just after they were taken or save them to their phone’s camera roll and re-share them with Snapchat later on.

Memories stores all of the user’s posts, enabling them to look back through them much more easily, by swiping up from the camera.

If users post a snap that’s more than a day old to a Story, it will appear with a frame round it so that people will know it’s old, says Snapchat.

Memories also features image recognition software so that pictures can be easily searched by categories like ‘summer’, ‘beach’ or ‘dog’.

Many users have expressed concern that the app is moving further away from its original status as a self-destructing photo messaging app.

The ability to save snaps for later is likely to diminish the app’s spontaneous nature and give it a more curated feel like Instagram, say critics.

However, the firm still acknowledges that people may want to use the app for sexting, and so has made it easy to move snaps and Stories to My Eyes Only to avoid any ‘sensitive’ images causing any embarrassment.

Snapchat will be rolling out the new feature over the next month or so.
