Sneak peek into the life of the Prince of Udaipur

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar belongs to the same generation of princes and royals as Yuvraj Mahanaaryaman Scindia of Gwalior and Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur. However, he’s much older than the two.

While Gwalior and Jaipur are still in their early to mid-20s, Mewar of Udaipur is over 36 years old. While some of his wilder days may have been in the pre-social networking era, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar doesn’t mind letting his followers sneak a peek into what it is to be born a royal.

Mewar, along with his father, Arvind Singh Mewar, belong to the dynasty that has ruled Udaipur. The 1500-year-old House of Mewar is one of the oldest dynasties in the world and among the richest in India.

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar’s home is the Udaipur City Palace, a part of which is open for tourists. Built across five acres of land, the Udaipur City Palace is constructed to resemble a ship. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar grew up here and has lived here for most of his life except for the time that he went to Australia to study hotel management.

While there, the prince did all kinds of odd jobs – from being a waiter in a hotel to a barista in a café – before he returned home to Udaipur to manage the various properties that his family owns.

The HRH Group runs more than ten hotels including the Jag Mandir Palace which sits on an island in the middle of Lake Pichola and is perhaps most famous for being featured in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy.

Mewar made redevelopment of the palace, which had since fallen into ruins, as one of his first projects and transformed it into an exclusive wedding destination. More recently, it served as one of the venues of Isha Ambani’s wedding to Anand Piramal.

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar is also an avid sportsperson and loves cricket. By his own account he gave up a promising career in the game to pursue his responsibilities as a prince of a major royal household in India. However, he continues to be an advisor to the President of the Rajasthan Cricket Association.

Aside from all of this, Mewar also loves driving luxury cars and supposedly has a fleet of them. Among his latest additions to the garage is the Bentley Mulsanne EWB. The elegant beast retails at approximately Rs 5.5 crore a pop and that’s just one of the super luxury cars in his garage. Mewar also owns a Mercedes Maybach

To say nothing of a fleet of Rolls Royce cars and a host of vintage vehicles too

Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar also loves flying planes – both real and model – cooking, and promoting the heritage of his ancestors.
