SNL star's Emmy speech cut off while thanking Hillary
Primetime Emmy Awards viewers were put off when Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon's acceptance speech was cut off just as she thanked Hillary Clinton.
McKinnon was picking up the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Award at Sunday's Gala, no doubt in large part because of her impersonation of Hillary on SNL during last year's election.
So well deserved! Felicidades Kate McKinnon #emmys and she thanked #Hillary pic.twitter.com/pO0QWTWuWc

Taking to the stage, she said: "Being part of this season of Saturday Night Live is the most meaningful thing I will ever do. Congratulations to our incredible cast… On a very personal note, I want to say thank you to Hillary Clinton for your grace and your grit."
As you can see from the video above, the Emmys play-off music begins literally the second that McKinnon's acceptance goes political with a nod to McKinnon.
Was it a conspiracy or just a thoughtless, patriarchal coincidence? Twitter detectives definitely have theories (warning: NSFW tweets below):
Sean Spicer is allowed on stage at the #Emmys but Kate McKinnon tries to thank Hillary Clinton in her acceptance speech and gets cut off?

So far, no big upsets or surprises. The only time I've been upset was when they tried to cut off Kate McKinnon thanking Hillary. #Emmys pic.twitter.com/q4uCuPDcPK

To be fair to the Emmys, host Stephen Colbert did open the show with some jibes aimed directly at Donald Trump… with the help of Trump's actual press secretary Sean Spicer.
"However you feel about the president, you can't deny that every show was influenced by Donald Trump in some way," he told the star-studded crowd. "We all know the Emmys mean a lot to Donald Trump because he was nominated multiple times for Celebrity Apprentice, but he never won.
"If he had won an Emmy I bet he wouldn't have run for president. So in a way, this is all your fault."
Stephen Colbert hosted the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater, airing live on CBS in the US.
