Snoop Dogg has revealed he is ready to invest in Celtic after being inspired by Hollywood pal Ryan Reynold's purchase of Welsh club Wrexham.

The football mad rapper is said to be considering putting cash into the Glasgow club - and would even be happy to take on mascot duties. In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mail, the 17-times Grammy nominated artist, who was a hit as a torchbearer at the Paris Olympics, said: “I love what Ryan has done with Wrexham – it’s just a great story.

“Investing in a sports team has been something I have been looking at for a long time – if the chance came to invest in Celtic, I would be crazy not to take a look at it. I have watched so much soccer in Europe but I have never seen fans like the Celtic fans. There is something so special about them.

“There is a reason why their fans are talked about across Europe – the best players and coaches in the world tell you there is nowhere like Celtic Park and I want to be a part of that. Their mascot is a hound – you couldn’t make that up. Snoop Dogg becomes Hoopy the Hound – that’s gotta be a match made in heaven. The headlines write themselves.”

The 52-year-old, who is worth £120million, has been a fan of the hoops for two decades and was even seen wearing a strip when he played in Glasgow last year. He said he was overjoyed when they clinched the 2022/2023 championship.

The rapper, born in Long Beach, California, has appeared in a host of Hollywood films and has previously spoken about duetting with Celtic fan Sir Rod Stewart. But he’d also love to share a stage with another Hoops fan – Susan Boyle.

The music mogul said: “Susan Boyle is a name everybody is going to remember. My boy Simon Cowell knows a star when he sees one and knows how to make serious money for everybody involved. I haven’t heard about her in a long time but Susan needs to make a comeback. I’d love to sing with her.”

Snoop, who wed his childhood sweetheart Shante Taylor in 1997, said that he would love to catch a game with Sir Rod and sing Las Vegas with him. The dad of four said: “I would love to go to a Celtic game with Sir Rod – if not this season maybe the next – we need to make that happen. He is one of the true kings of Vegas and, for real, Vegas has always been Snoop’s town.”

The US rapper was greeted with a piper who played the song Still D.R.E after he landed in Scotland last year ahead of his gig at the OVO Hydro. He told how Scots audiences are the best in the world, adding: “Scots always give me so much love – I am welcomed with bagpipes or a Celtic jersey.

"They are real classy – when Snoop touches down in Scotland, he always feels that love and you guys get that love right back. The last show I did in Glasgow was off the shizzle. Scotland, I promise I’ll be back.”

Snoop has been a Hoops fan since 2005, when Scots DJ Big Al gave him his first strip and said his favourite thing to do when he visits – apart from watching Celtic – is going for an Indian meal and asked for recommendations.

He said: “The UK do the best Indian food in the world – if anybody wants to let me know the best curry in Glasgow, shout me on social media.”

The entrepreneur – real name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr – was nicknamed “Snoopy” as a kid due to his likeness to the cartoon character. He has sold 35million albums.

The star is a life-long wrestling fan and highly rates Scots WWE hero Drew McIntyre. Snoop was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. Earlier this year, he said: “Drew is an incredible wrestler – one of my favourites of recent years. I would love to commentate on one of his title matches.”

The rapper is also keen to record another track with Scot Calvin Harris. He said in 2023: “We are going to make it happen.”
