Snorkeler Drifts Into Group of Nurse Sharks in Maldives

A man on an expedition with Shadowpalm Tours in the Maldives had a unique experience as he was able to snorkel alongside a group of nurse sharks while tour operator Rizkhan Mohamed filmed the scene from a drone above.

While intimidating, nurse sharks are considered “harmless to humans,” according to National Geographic.

Taken above the Indian Ocean in the Vaavu Atoll area in Maldives and posted to Instagram on August 21, 2019, the drone footage shows the man casually swimming up to the nurse sharks and observing them up close.

Mohamed explained, “We snorkel with sharks as a tour. That certain day there were a lot of sharks in the shallow ocean.” Credit: shadowpalmmaldives via Storyful
