Snow Causes School Closures, Power Outages in North of England

Snow caused school closures and left thousands without power in the north of England on Friday, March 10.

Footage recorded by @Tomtheleedstim shows a thick layer of snow on the ground in Horsforth, on the outskirts of Leeds.

Northern Powergrid said on Friday morning that 7,000 customers were without power due to adverse weather, calling the level of outages “above business-as-usual levels”.

Drivers on the M62 motorway between Manchester and Leeds were stuck for hours overnight due to snow, with some forced to abandon their vehicles.

Local media reported that just three schools in the city of Leeds were open on Friday, with many shut due to snow. Credit: @Tomtheleedstim via Storyful
