The Snowman trail at Clumber Park is perfect family activity this Christmas
Visitors will be able to discover a magical trail at Clumber Park this winter as 12 giant snowmen sculptures have been placed across the site. The family trail has been inspired by Raymond Briggs’ heart-warming picture book, The Snowman, and is a free event taking place at the National Trust site near Worksop until Sunday, January 5.
There are 12 large snowman sculptures at the park to find thanks to a collaboration with the Trust, Wild in Art and Penguin Ventures. Each of the sculptures have a design inspired by the song The Twelve Days of Christmas and are placed in unique spots at the site.
Charlie Langhorne, managing director and co-founder of Wild in Art, says: “We are delighted to be working alongside the team at Clumber Park for a second year. Our festive trails encourage people to get out into the fresh air, experience wonderful art and discover amazing places around their local area.
"We can't wait for visitors to discover the magic of the trail and see how artists have brought the iconic Snowman to life.” There are map boards around the park for visitors to follow, or you can also pick up a paper copy of the map for £1 from the discovery centre.
The trail is suitable for all ages, and nine of the sculptures can be found within the main visitor area and are fully accessible, whilst the remaining three are part of the 3.5 mile lakeside circular walking route. Visitors can take part in the trail any day of the week between 9am and 4pm and do not need to book, but it is recommended that you wrap up warm.
Whilst the event is free, normal charges do apply for the site, which is free for members or £5 per adult and £2.50 per child, although there are also family tickets available.
Thomas Merrington, creative director of Penguin Ventures, adds: “Raymond Briggs' timeless and magical tale of friendship continues to be a beloved part of many families’ Christmas traditions. We are delighted The Snowman art sculptures will be a part of Clumber Park’s celebrations this year”.
Rob Holder, general manager at Clumber Park, adds: “We are delighted to be hosting a trail centred around one of the nation’s best-loved tales. It will highlight some of the most photogenic spots we have here at Clumber and will be loved by visitors of all ages."
On Saturday, December 7, the site will also be having its bike sale, which was postponed from Saturday, November 23, due to the poor weather. The Christmas Fayre and National Trust 10k race were also cancelled over the weekend due to the frozen ground, snowfall and heavy rain forecast.
