Soccer Aid viewers have criticised tonight's commentators for 'fat-shaming' some of the celebrities taking part in this year's charity football match.
Once again raising funds for UNICEF, to help support disadvantaged children in more than 190 countries, Sunday's (September 6) game handed a Soccer Aid debut to a whole new bunch of celebrities and former professional footballers, including Jason Manford, Joel Dommett, Iain Stirling, Santan Dave, Kelly Smith MBE, Patrice Evra and David James.
And while the game, as ever, was played in good spirits, ITV viewers were left feeling uncomfortable about some of the commentary.
Those watching at home took exception when veteran sports broadcaster Clive Tyldesley made a joke about actor Tom Davis' weight, and then appeared to do the same with YouTuber Chunkz.
"Commentators really fat-bashing Tom Davis. Least he’s out there giving it a go, needless to say for charity too," tweeted one viewer.
Another wrote: "#SoccerAid why are these commentators fat shaming Tom Davis and Chunkz on National tv and it’s being allowed? It’s disgusting."
"Clive Tyldesley's comments on Tom Davis are absolutely not okay. Anyone can struggle with body image and negative comments being broadcast to such a huge audience isn't good for anyone's self esteem. Rude and uncalled for. #SoccerAid," added another.

So far, the commentators have made comments about Tom Davis:— Chop (@TweetingChop) September 6, 2020
‘he’s wearing glasses to see past his stomach’
‘He’s trying to run in, trying being the operative word’
‘He’s being replaced, by someone even bigger than him’
It’s actually horrible. #SoccerAid

For a charity event commentators are going in with the fat shaming of Tom Davis ffs #SoccerAid— Katie-Lou (@krazy_katerz) September 6, 2020
Absolutely disgusting commentary from @CliveTyldesley. How is it acceptable to talk about Tom Davis and Chunkz in that way. You should be ashamed and you should not be allowed to commentate further. Considering turning off. #SoccerAid— Julie White (@juliewhite875) September 6, 2020

Can the commentators be more offensive towards Tom Davis? They want to remember he's doing this for charity... #SoccerAid— High Priestess Gabagool (@dmthompson73) September 6, 2020
For the first time in the charity match's history, the UK Government and Gavi, theVaccine Alliance, matched public donations to Soccer Aid for UNICEF, meaning the impact of the donations were tripled for children across the world.
For every £1 donated, UNICEF will receive £3. Donations are being taken up until October 6, 2020. You can make a contribution here.
