Pedestrians were forced into the path of traffic after a huge pile of gardening waste was dumped in Acocks Green. The mound of grass, plants and soil was left across the pavement on Botteville Road yesterday, Monday, October 14.

The walkway was completely blocked all day and throughout the night until it was reportedly removed by Birmingham City Council on Tuesday morning.

It was not known who dumped the soil but according to social media reports it came from a nearby garden. Coun Roger Harmer came across the waste as he walked home from an advice bureau on Monday evening. He reported the matter to the council.

He said: "The key point is the pavement was completely blocked and the soil was spilling well onto the highway too. I reported it and officers went out this morning and can confirm it has now been cleared.

"I would ask the person who did this to have more consideration for those who use the pavement and not leave it blocked overnight in this way. If soil is being barrowed out it should be done either directly to the lorry that is removing it or to a skip that is left safely marked and leaves the pavement clear."

Birmingham City Council has been contacted for comment.
