Solar Flare: Nasa Images Of Powerful Emission

Images of a super solar flare emitted by the sun have been released by Nasa.

Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation and are quite common when the sun's activity peaks.

The flare was classified as M-class - which means it can cause some space weather effects on Earth.

When intense enough, such flares can disturb the atmosphere in the layer where communications signals travel.

This disrupts the radio signals for as long as the flare is ongoing, anywhere from minutes to hours.

This flare caused a brief radio blackout on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's space weather scales.

NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Centre is the US government's official source for space weather forecasts, alerts, watches and warnings.
