Soldier Drives Vehicle Into Active Shooter on Bridge, Saving 'Countless' Lives

A soldier used his car to drive into a gunman who was shooting at motorists on a bridge connecting Kansas and Missouri on Wednesday, May 27.

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said “countless people” were saved when the solider, named in reports as Master Sgt. David Royer, rammed his car into a gunman who had opened fire on the Centennial Bridge.

The suspect was reportedly was armed with a handgun and semi-automatic rifle, and was firing randomly at cars.

Police Chief Kitchens said there were about a dozen people on the bridge at the time of the attack. He said one person had been shot and that a second person, the shooter, was seriously injured after being struck by the car. Both were taken to hospital.
