A new name has announced it will move into the site of a once-popular Solihull restaurant which closed suddenly. Esabella's on Warwick Road in Solihull town centre abruptly shut its doors in September of last year, leaving confused diners turning up to a deserted site.

A big hitter on the Solihull foodie-scene known for its European and Mediterranean cuisine, customers were left scratching their heads after Esabella's ceased trading, just months after a pricey refurbishment. Owners told BirminghamLive they had been forced to close their doors due to circumstances "out of their control."

Since then, the unit has been left deserted. But on June 3, Solihull BID announced a Portuguese restaurant will be moving in and opening very soon. Porto Douro Restaurants is set to open in the old Esabella's unit imminently, with the hope of bringing life to that corner of Warwick Road.

Porto Douro Restaurants, which has a venue in Acocks Green, had posted on their Facebook page in April a "new menu launch and new site" would be coming to Solihull soon, but no further detail beyond that.

Confirming the news on Monday, Solihull BID stated: "Well the cat's out of the bag! The amazing Porto Douro Restaurants is coming to Solihull town centre, taking over the old Esabella's unit."

And they gave an idea of what diners can expect, explaining: "Porto Douro is a Portuguese restaurant and bar where individuals can come together and enjoy good food, good wine and good times!" News of Porto Douro opening on Warwick Road will be welcomed by Solihull diners, particularly as Esabella's was once bustling with diners after a taste of its high-end food and social atmosphere.

After it closed, the restaurant was left frozen in time, with the interior completely pulled apart, urinals ripped out and left by the bar. When BirminghamLive visited the site the only sign of life left were glasses and plates of food left discarded in the entrance.

Commenting underneath Solihull BID's announcement on Facebook, diners were quick to express how happy they are the unit is being filled, and even gave an insight into what to expect from Porto Douro. One happy diner wrote: "Looking forward to trying it !!"

Another added: "Fab food!" Esabella's was situated just off Mell Square, which has been the site of much change recently. You can read the latest updates on Mell Square, here.
