There’s now a ‘vegan’ fried chicken shop… but not everyone’s happy with the name

A vegan chicken shop has opened in London to a mixed reaction, with some people claiming its name is offensive.

‘Temple of Seitan’ specialises in vegan ‘chicken’ made from a wheat protein called seitan.

After running as a pop-up stall in Brick Lane, its owners have now launched a takeaway shop in Hackney, that opened to huge queues and rave reviews.

But some people have been less impressed by the venture – or its name at least.

One review on the business’s Facebook page said: “Seems like the owner is deliberately being offensive to Christians which is kind of sad considering the amount of hate and division there already is in the world.”

The owners replied, saying they hadn’t set out to offend anyone, but other people weighed in saying the symbology behind an upside down cross would clearly offend some people.

Many supporters stayed faithful to the food outlet, with one writing: “Ignore the absolute mentalists who have taken umbrage with the name alone: unreal food served by a super friendly crew.”
