Somerset dad in agony every day starts using medical cannabis
A 47-year-old carpenter from Somerset has shared his experience of taking medical cannabis. Elisei, a 47-year-old entrepreneur and father from Transylvania, now living in Yeovil, endured years of chronic pain from a work-related injury.
Conventional treatments failed for him. But since medical cannabis was legalised in the UK in 2018, he has reclaimed his health and well-being. Elisei’s struggle with his pain began in 2016 after a work-related injury working in the United States.
"I'm a hardwood floor installer and finisher, and my work is physically demanding. Back in 2016, I developed a herniated disc in my lower back. The pain was excruciating—it radiated down to my left leg and caused problems with my hip. I tried every type of physiotherapy, but nothing worked.” Elisei said.

“One day, I lifted something heavy, and I heard a little crack. Ever since, the pain has been worse than before." When Elisei and his family moved to the UK seven years ago, he sought help for his chronic pain as he was in desperate need.
He added: "I was prescribed a morphine-based medication called Tilidine in Germany. When we moved to the UK, that wasn’t available, so my GP prescribed codeine, diazepam, and strong sleeping medications. None of it truly helped. The codeine made me lose my appetite and gave me terrible constipation. I felt disconnected from myself and my family."
Elisei said his perspective shifted when a friend introduced him to medical cannabis. He said: "I talked with my friend again, and he recommended Releaf. He said he’d been with them for five months and that his experience had been fantastic."
Elisei said he had also been familiar with the healing properties of cannabis prior to his treatment. "I grew up in the mountains of Transylvania, where we relied on natural remedies like cannabis for bronchitis. We’d boil the seeds to make tea for coughs. When I learned about legal medical cannabis in the UK, I decided to give it a try," he said.
Since starting medical cannabis treatment, Elisei said he has experienced significant improvements in his daily life.
"I haven’t taken codeine in two and a half months. My appetite is back, and I eat all the time. Before, I wouldn’t eat until 5pm., but now I start the day with breakfast and even take lunch breaks with my wife. I also sleep deeply at night, something I hadn’t done in years.”
Beyond pain relief, the treatment has positively affected his relationships. "My wife says I’m calmer and more present. My mum noticed I’m no longer irritable and moody. That’s made a world of difference for our family."
Elisei plans to move his family back to Transylvania, where they are building a cabin. "I want to enjoy life without pain and create a better future for my family. Medical cannabis has given me the strength to pursue this dream," he said.
