Somerset's lost nightclub which was once the best in the west

Who can forget the thrill of a night out in Somerset, culminating in a dance floor showdown at one of the many vibrant clubs that once dotted the town?

Thirty years ago, the choices were plentiful, with each venue vying to be the hotspot where the cool kids congregated. Fast forward to the present, and Somerset's club scene is teetering on the brink of extinction. Nightspots are shutting down, and the allure of "clubbing" is waning.

However, let's take a trip down memory lane to the 80s, when Somerset's nightlife was thriving. One venue that stood out from the pack was The Palace nightclub in Crewkerne, which proudly held the title of the South West's best club in 1985.

This iconic hotspot was the place to be every weekend, with its futuristic light show that would temporarily clear the dancefloor, mesmerizing revellers with its dazzling display.

A YouTube video showcasing the club's fantastic lights and electric atmosphere has sparked nostalgia on social media. The clip captures the essence of a night at The Palace, with partygoers dancing the night away to hits like Diana Ross's chart-topping "Chain Reaction".

The video has evoked memories from those who frequented The Palace, with Lee Burridge commenting, "Brilliant time to be a teenager."

Richard Burt reminisced about the highlight of the night: "The DJ played War of the Worlds while putting on a great light show with the famous spinning rig. Great memories."
