'Something special' Goole Vikings' vision laid out as Scott Taylor explains move
Goole Vikings have confirmed the appointment of former Hull FC player Scott Taylor as their new head coach. As reported by Hull Live last month, Taylor will lead the new League 1 franchise into their professional era in 2025, with the 33-year-old looking forward to starting 'something special' with the club.
Earning his coaching badges while a player, Taylor previously coached Beverley A.R.L.F.C in the amateur game and will now make the step up into his first professional coaching role. He retired from playing at the end of 2023, bringing the curtain down on a 14-year career.
During that career, Taylor won both the Super League and Challenge Cup trophies with Wigan Warriors before adding two more cup medals at Hull FC, where he played for eight years.

"I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as head coach of Goole Vikings," Taylor said. "This is a fantastic opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started and be part of something special.
"The chance to build a team from the ground up is something that really excites me. Having worked in the amateur game with Beverley, I’ve learned a lot, and I’m ready to take on this new challenge.
"The ambition of this club and the people who have given me this opportunity matches my own, and I’m confident we can create a team that the town of Goole can be proud of."
Goole have also confirmed that Kev Marshall will stay on at the club, having coached the club's amateur side in the Yorkshire Men's League. He has previously worked at Hull FC. They have announced their first player signings, too, with Ben Hodder joining from the amateur side and Tom Halliday from Doncaster.
Taylor added: "Kevin was a natural fit to progress into the new setup and helps us retain some consistency and identity in the good work that has gone on within the amateur side of the club to get us to this point. I’ve been very impressed with him so far, he has a great work ethic and is well respected around the club by the senior management, coaches, and players.
"It has been a strong focus for us to retain the community values that this club stands for and to highlight that there is a pathway from the community setup into the professional ranks. Kevin helps us demonstrate what can be achieved."
Jamie Shaul will also come out of retirement to play for Goole next season, as exclusively reported by Hull Live last month, with former Hull FC CEO James Clark also involved.
