The son of the man tragically killed in central London when a window pane fell from a penthouse flat has told of his heartbreak in a moving tribute to his “idol” dad.

Mick Ferris died instantly on Tuesday after a window pane fell 250 feet from a luxury penthouse at the Thames riverside.

Kind words have flooded in for the 53-year-old from friends and colleagues alike, and the coach driver’s son, Daniel Ferris, today described his father as his idol.

He wrote on Facebook: “Yesterday my family where shocked by the news that my dad's been killed suddenly in London.

“Heartbroken isn't the world to describe how myself and the family feel. I love you so much dad and I'll think about you every day. My life long idol. Always in my heart and mind. 🧡

“Now that your gone West Ham are gonna pull it out the bag and win every match of the season just you watch.”

A colleague of Mr Harris senior told the MailOnline: “He was a lovely guy, really warm and friendly. I can't really say any more than that.”

Another co-worker, who was at the Corniche tower on Tuesday, told reporters the victim was "a really nice fellow" and said his death was a "tragedy".

A spokesman for Clarkes of London said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim's family.

“It is not appropriate for us to comment any further while the police investigate this tragedy and speak to the next of kin.”

A section of window from one of the penthouse properties in the Corniche could be seen to be missing from the structure as police erected a cordon after the incident.

Scrap metal dealer Paddy Riley said he was driving past shortly after it happened. "There was lots of blood everywhere and other stuff - it was very, very distressing," the 59-year-old said.

A Met Police spokesman said: "At this early stage in the investigation, it is believed he was hit by something falling from a building."

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

The London Ambulance Service dispatched two motorcycle responders, a car and an ambulance.

"Sadly, a person was dead at the scene," the spokesman said.

Property developer St James said it was investigating the incident at The Corniche.

A spokesman said: "It is with great sadness that we learnt of an incident at our Corniche development on Albert Embankment this morning, in which a man suffered fatal injuries.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to his family at this incredibly difficult time.

"We are investigating this incident as a matter of urgency and working with the emergency services to establish what happened."

The Corniche is listed as an "exclusive riverside address" made up of 252 two, three, and four-bedroom apartments which overlook a number of London landmarks.

Designed by Foster + Partners, it is the same company responsible for the Gherkin, and properties are priced between £2.7 million and £6.25 million.
