A series of leaks suggest that Sony will release a golden variant of the PS4 Slim immediately before E3.

Last week MeinFewer posted an image of a boxed console on Imgur, which was then shared on Reddit by a user called Sliye. The latter says they work at Target, the American discount store, and "it looks like the PS4 gold is coming June 9".

Further corroborating the leak was a post today by Twitter user @Wario64, who posted a sneak peek at an advertisement for Target scheduled for the week of June 11.

"PlayStation 4 1TB Slim Gold console confirmed for Target ad week of June 11, $249.99," reads the tweet.

As if that wasn't enough, a gold version of the DualShock 4 controller is now available to order at Best Buy in the US.

It's unclear how much a golden PS4 Slim may cost in the UK, or if an EU release is even on the cards, but on this side of the pond, the going rate for a 500GB PS4 Slim in black is £229.99.

Sony hasn't confirmed or denied the existence of a golden console.

We're now a matter of days away from the beginning of E3, where Sony will undoubtedly be making some surprise announcements about key games, though given its recent spree of hardware releases in the form of the PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro and PSVR, we would expect most revelations to be software related.

Sony's E3 press conference takes place on June 13 at 2am BST. Time to crack out the coffee and pyjamas if you want to watch the show, then.
