Sophie Turner Defends 'Stranger Things' Kids
Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner has stepped up to defend a Stranger Things star after he was criticized for not meeting fans over the weekend. Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the hit Netflix show, got flak from online commenters after a video reportedly surfaced online, showing him heading into his hotel without stopping to greet fans or take pictures.
Yesterday afternoon, the GoT actress took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the controversy surrounding 14-year-old Wolfhard and his fellow child actors. She wrote in a string of tweets:
"Damn... seeing fully grown adults wait outside the ‘Stranger Things’ kids’ hotels etc, and then abuse them when they don’t stop for them is super weird. A. What adult in their right mind waits for a CHILD outside their hotel and B is then is offended when the CHILD doesn’t stop It doesn’t matter if they are an actor... they are kids first. Give them the space they need in order to grow without feeling like they owe anyone anything for living their childhood dreams."

Turner, 21, knows what it's like to be star in a TV phenomenon as a young teen. She landed the role of GoT's Sansa Stark at 13 years old (about the same age as the Stranger Things kids when their show kicked off), and she was only 15 when the show premiered.
The actress continued, urging her followers to think of the situation through a parent's perspective. She added that a child consenting to be on camera for a show or film doesn't imply his or her consenting "to be followed around with a camera in their face," she wrote. "I don't care if it 'comes with the job.' It doesn't."
Oh and ps. Imagine.. you, a parent, walking with your 13 year old son/daughter and seeing a fully grown adult pointing their camera phone ..

.. at your kid. You would do anything you could to delete that persons photograph, and remove your child from that situation as soon as...
- Sophie Turner (@SophieT) November 6, 2017
.. you could. It doesn’t matter if that child happens to be an actor and consented to a professional film crew capturing their moves when..

.. in character.. That does NOT mean that this child consented to being followed around with a camera in their face. I don’t care if it

“Comes with the job”. It doesn’t.

She concluded by chastising fans, especially adults, who "shun and demean" young actors for not taking pictures.
And how dare you shun and demean that child when they don’t pose for an adult strangers photograph or walk over and talk to them when they..

.. take that NOT CONSENTED FOR photo . Doesn’t that go against everything we teach our children anyway? Pshhhh. Some people man.

In addition to Turner, other Stranger Things stars also had Wolfhard's back. Shannon Purser, who portrayed Barb in Season 1, tweeted over the weekend, "No actor is under any obligation to stop for anyone. Finn is an incredibly kind human. But he's human and he needs breaks too."
Okay, no. No actor is under any obligation to stop for anyone. Finn is an incredibly kind human. But he's human and he needs breaks too. https://t.co/b4Lfrl1wU3

The actress added in a later tweet, "So, from one big sister to the world, don't you DARE make young actors feel guilty or indebted to you because they couldn't say hi."
Noah Schnapp, who plays Wolfhard's onscreen buddy Will Byers (and his real-life friend), also chimed in. He retweeted Purser saying, "So true. we really love the fans. Finn is the nicest guy u will ever know. We all work so hard, and need a break sometimes. #Compassion"
