Sorry, The Spider Bursting Out Of A Banana Video Is Fake

The creepy video shows movement inside a banana before a spider bursts out of it

Social media was disgusted at the video of a banana crawling around and bursting out of a banana over the weekend - but it isn’t real.

The admittedly-creepy video shows movement inside a mouldy-looking banana before a spider bursts out of it.

Arachnophobes in their thousands swore themselves off bananas for life as a result of the video, that was compared to the chest-bursting scene in sci-fi horror, Alien.

But if you’re lacking in potassium, it’s safe to buy bananas again as the video looks to be the work of a CGI wizard.

The man who posted the video to his YouTube channel is one Kaleb Lechowski, who writes on his Tumblr page: “I create and animate creatures of different kinds, so check my pictures and videos.”

He also has his own IMDB page with a visual effects credit for his Matrix-inspired short, R’ha - which is rumoured to be getting the big budget, Hollywood treatment.

His YouTube page also features more videos showing off his digital effects work.

Aside from all that evidence, how does a spider be born and grow inside a closed banana in the first place?

This isn’t the first fake spider video to do the rounds - earlier this month we reported on Emmy-nominated visual effects expert, Bruce Banit, admitted that a video showing a spider living in his ear wasn’t real.

Still, at least banoffee pie is back on the menu…
