Netflix will not be saving Girl Meets World from the axe.

TheWrap reports that the streaming giant will not produce any new episodes of the recently cancelled Boy Meets World spin-off, despite fan campaigns for Netflix or another platform to pick it up.

However, don't lose hope just yet, Girl Meets World fans.

"We are certainly having discussions, there are some interested platforms. I don't think Girl should have been cancelled," commented showrunner Michael Jacobs.

"We signed to do four seasons. I thought we would be able to tell stories through four seasons. That's the way we set it up. It was going to be a remarkable final year. But I understand, things end."

The final (ever?) episode of Girl Meets World airs today (January 20) in the US and if this is the end, the sitcom is going out on a high.

'Girl Meets Goodbye' features the biggest-ever Boy Meets World reunion as Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) appears alongside the likes of William Daniels (Mr Feeny), William Russ (Alan), Betsy Randle (Amy) and Danny McNulty (Harley).

Following its axe, Girl Meets World's lead actress Rowan Blanchard, who plays Riley Matthews, was among the cast members to thank the show's fans.

"I am so honoured to call you our audience. You allowed a dream to breathe. You have given us so much, you give so much, and for that we genuinely will never be able to repay you," she wrote in an emotional letter on Twitter.
