Thanks to La La Land, musicals may be all the rage right now, but that does not make them sexy.

According to a new poll of Britons, show tunes are the last kind of music to be played in the bedroom.

Musicals came 19th and last as the type of music they will listen to when getting romantic.

They were even beaten by thrash metal, chamber music and hymns when it came to what people thought constituted sexy tunes.

Only one per cent of lovers play musicals in the bedroom, according to a survey of more than 2,000 people conducted by Birmingham’s Symphony Hall.

Top of the list was R&B, with 19 per cent, followed by chart music and pop from the 1980s and 1990s.

Among the other types of music on the list were “progressive rock, which got four per cent support, “meditation”, three per cent, and folk music two per cent.

The survey found that 43% of people play music while making love, the BBC reported.

It also found that 62 per cent of unmarried couples like to have music in the background, compared with 28 per cent of unmarried ones.

La La Land has been one of Hollywood’s big hits of the year and has been nominated for 12 Oscars, including best actor and actress for stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

It has also been nominated for Best Picture.

The film tells the story of a romance between the pair who play a struggling actress and struggling jazz musician.
