Sources: Timberwolves hold players-only meeting on cusp of elimination

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves held a players-only meeting Wednesday, a day after a pivotal Game 5 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies put them down 3-2 in the opening-round playoff series, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The players gathered together following a team film session conducted by head coach Chris Finch, sources said.

Players watched additional film among themselves, challenged each other to play with urgency and to play the right way as well as stressed the importance of moving the ball, sources said.

The Timberwolves left the practice facility Wednesday believing they can win two straight games, a player told Yahoo Sports.

Finch told reporters Thursday that there was too much hero ball in Game 5, which he said contributed to a stagnant and predictable offense.

Anthony Edwards took the blame for the lack of ball movement, saying he has to swing the ball early to allow teammates to make a move with enough time on the shot clock.

Game 6 is Friday in Minnesota.

The Grizzlies will be without center Steven Adams who was placed in health and safety protocols Thursday.
