South Carolina Town Braces for More Flooding

Residents and city officials in Conway, South Carolina, scrambled to prepare the town on Wednesday, September 19, as forecasters said the Waccamaw River would keep rising for another week and beat its previous record.

The flood stage beneath the US 501 bridge in Conway is 11 feet; on Wednesday, the depth was 15 feet. The river’s record – just under 18 feet – was set in 2016 when the area was hit by Hurricane Matthew. The National Weather Service predicted the river would be above 20 feet by early Monday.
