South Derbyshire pub aiming to be named 'Halloween Pub of the Year' once again
The landlords of a South Derbyshire pub are going all out to defend their “Halloween Pub of the Year” title with a full week of events. Hayley and Marc McEvoy, mine hosts at The Tavern at Hatton, take Halloween very seriously and go to great lengths with a lot of attention to detail.
The McEvoys were rewarded with the title among Admiral Taverns pubs in the region for their efforts last October. “We’ve gone even further with the décor this year!” says Hayley.
“Last year we had a real coffin, various Halloween props and a light-up sky with witches’ hats and candles on the roof in the bar. This year we have all the same but have added a giant skeleton to the outside roof and a Harry Potter-themed area in the bar with brooms and props on the light-up ceiling.”

Martin Gregory, billed as an “alternative singer”, performed on Friday night (October 25) to kick off a week of events, with a children’s party and karaoke to follow this evening (Saturday, October 26).
A jam night, a further disco and karaoke night, a Halloween-themed quiz and, finally, on Saturday, November 2, live music from local band Murder of Crows are among the attractions.
In terms of beer, it’s Bass, Adnams Ghost Ship and Hobgoblin, along with alternating guests from Peakstones, Burton Bridge, Dancing Duck and Titanic breweries. Halloween-themed cocktails will also feature.
