South Koreans the least likely to think North Korea and the US will go to war

People in South Korea are the least likely to believe that North Korea and the US will go to war.

Despite worldwide fears of a war between the two nations, those in the country closest to the potential conflict are the most relaxed about it.

According to a world poll by Ipsos Mori, two thirds of people in South Korea (66%) think a war is unlikely.

That’s much higher than the world average of 40% who believe it won’t happen.

A slightly higher percentage of those surveyed – 42% – think a war is likely.

In the US, however, there are more fears about a possible war, with 47% of people thinking a battle with North Korea is on the cards, compared to just 33% who think it’s unlikely.

Ipsos Mori polled more than 21,000 people across 28 countries for its survey.

Meanwhile, in the UK, only 39% believe a North Korea/US war is going to happen.

They are much more concerned about security matters at home, however, with Britons the most likely out of the 28 nations to think a major terrorist attack will happen in their country in 2018.

More than two thirds of Britons (65%) think a terror attack on their home soil is a likelihood, more than people in Turkey (60%), France (53%), Germany (51%) and the US (51%).

When it comes to politics stateside, 43% of Britons believe Donald Trump will be impeached as US president in 2018.

Despite the terror fears, Britons remain optimistic about the year ahead, with 66% saying that 2018 will be a better year than 2017.

Almost half of people in the UK (46%) think the global economy will be stronger this year.
