A local ‘offie’ has been bringing a little slice of luxury to a West London neighbourhood after it was revealed they are selling bottles of wine for thousands of pounds each. The Battersea General Store has a selection of luxury wines for sell, with the most expensive one reaching £4,250.

But the store also sells local groceries and necessities, as well as the expensive bottles of wines which are out on display in the shop. A photograph shows the bottles of wine out for sale, several from the luxury wine brand Petrus - with the most expensive one going for £4,250, and the cheapest for £800.

On top of that a visit to the store might even result in a surprise celebrity sighting. Raj Bathia, managing director of the store said: “We’re a general store and visitors mainly aren’t celebrities, its people who work and live nearby.”

“There are a number of celebrities who come as well from afar, and also who live near or in the development. We can sell one [luxury] bottle every 2 to 3 months, and sometimes we can not sell any for a few months.”

Mr Bathia explains that while the store does stock luxury wines, they also sell bottles for as little as £9.99. The store also stocks lots of everyday items people might need - from Walkers crisps to Heinz Beans.

Battersea is one of London’s more expensive areas with the average monthly rent for a 2-bed flat there costing £2,799 per month, according to Rightmove.

The Battersea General Store was the first retailer to open for business in the Circus West Village, a luxury apartment complex which was part of the Battersea Power Station regeneration project.

The store is home to a bakery, sells alcohol, and fresh and chilled food. It’s website shows a whole range of products being sold such as an £8.99 balsamic vinegar, as well as a £1.99 can of peach slices.

Its website reads: “Serving you the finest products sourced from around the world. We were the first retailer to open for business at Circus West Village, the retail hub of the vibrant Battersea Power Station.

“From its stylish décor and accomplished staff, The General Store offers a unique shopping experience, both in-store and online. We offer a vast range of exquisite foods from all around the world, while also celebrating local craft produce.”
